How to name a drow
Drow names carry the weight of the Underdark: sharper, harder and far more dangerous-sounding than the names of their surface-elf kin. Where a wood elf's name drifts and flows, a drow name cuts, built from clipped consonants, sibilant hisses and unusual letter combinations like zz, x and q. A good drow name should sound like it was forged in torchlit stone, not sung under starlight.
Drow society is famously matriarchal, organized around noble Houses that trace their descent through the mother's line and compete constantly for status, territory and the favour of their goddess. Because of this, a drow character often carries two names: a personal name given at birth, and a House name that marks their bloodline, their rank and, often, their enemies. Naming a drow noble means choosing both.
The Drow Name Generator forges sharp, exotic personal names by default, names like Vrixis, Szornax or Drax that sound clipped and dangerous the moment you read them. Switch between male and female leanings, and use the count control to name a single infiltrator or an entire House retinue. Female drow names lean slightly more commanding, in keeping with matriarchal tradition.
Instant mode is free and immediate, ideal for naming a drow mid-session. Arcane mode uses AI to go further, giving each name a short, table-ready hook: a noble House, a political intrigue in the Underdark, a banishment to the surface, or a loyalty that runs darker than it first appears. Forge a batch, say the names aloud, and keep the ones that sound like they belong to a House at war.
